A good Samaritan is being lauded after an armed man Thursday was subdued and taken into custody by New York police officers.
Fox News mentioned The Good Samaritan, a “New York City civilian,” actually “stood in the path of an armed suspect fleeing NYPD officers and pushed him into a nearby fence.”
Office of the United States Attorney for the District of New York issued A press release about the incident stated that Jason Fleming was arrested after a civilian stopped him and detained him for the police.
The civilian saw Fleming allegedly carrying “a High Point carbine and a loaded Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum revolver in broad daylight after a dispute at a bodega in Chelsea”.
“Fleming was running down the street with a gun in his hand while the police were chasing him…[and the good Samaritan] He stood in Fleming’s way and pushed him into a nearby hedge and then held him until the police officers, who were still in pursuit, arrested Fleming.”
Commenting on the incident, US Attorney Damian Williams said: “The defendant allegedly unlawfully brandished two loaded firearms in broad daylight on a Manhattan street, one of which was a carbine, which frightened several New Yorkers, including a child. Thanks Our law enforcement partners and the heroic efforts of the Good Samaritan, the accused was caught before he could harm anyone, and his weapons are now off the streets.”
