
Democratic members of Congress urged US President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken to investigate Israel’s use of American weapons to abuse human rights against Palestine, in violation of US law. United, the Middle East Monitor reported.
The request was made in a letter written by Representative Jamaal Bowman. Ten members of Congress have signed the letter so far, including representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Summer Lee, Rashida Tlaib, Cori Bush, Ilhan Omar, Betty McCollum, André Carson, and Ayanna Pressley.
According to Bowman’s office, US Senator Bernie Sanders is leading a campaign to gain the support of other Democratic lawmakers.
In the letter, the Biden administration is recommended to change US policy towards Israel.
“At this inflection point, we call on your administration to shift US policy in recognition of the escalating violence, annexation of more land and denial of Palestinian rights,” the letter said.
“It is through the protection of democracy, human rights, and self-determination for all Palestinians and Israelis that we can achieve lasting peace.”
The letter highlighted the “appalling violence” of Israeli occupation forces.
The latest violence perpetrated by the Israelis comes amid an already violent year, the letter continued.
Israeli occupation forces have killed at least 90 Palestinians since the beginning of the year, including 17 children.
