With a projected broadcast audience of one billion people, the world’s best riders will compete in 13 individual championships across seven disciplines at venues across Scotland.
Glentress will host cross-country mountain bike, riders competing in five championships from August 6-12.
Events at Glentress will see around 1,000 riders representing national teams and international cycling media, and 20,000 spectators are expected in the Tweed Valley – with a peak of 10,000 Olympic mountain bike visitors on August 12.
As part of the preparations, Go Tweed Valley and Mountain Biking development in Scotland will run free workshops in Peebles and Innerleithen on 8 March, with each designed to highlight the opportunities the event brings and how local businesses can get involved.
All are invited, from touring companies to local shops, with the aim of creating a calendar of ‘fringe’ events that complement the on-site village in Glentress.
“Every event in Tweed Valley is important, but the 2023 UCI World Cycling Championships is really off the scale in terms of the opportunity to show your best side to the world – with all the potential long-term economic benefits that it brings,” said Rich Rowe, project manager at Go Tweed Valley.
“We know that many companies, whether they participate in cycling or not, would benefit from learning more about the event so they can understand how best to participate.
“Our workshops will help answer questions and encourage local businesses to bring all their creativity and imagination to ensure that visitors from all over the world have an unforgettable experience and return to the Tweed Valley in the future.”
The Championship Welcome Workshops will take place on 8 March at Eastgate Theatre, Peebles (10am-12pm) and The Vale Club, Innerleithen, (1.30pm-3.30pm).
