One of Britain’s most vocal critics of transgenderism, JK Rowling, has been described as a “national treasure” by politicians vying to become Scotland’s next political leader.
The comments may be an attempt by would-be leaders to overcome or bypass the transgender ideology crisis that brought down the previous leadership. Nicola Sturgeon has taken a hard-left stance on transgender issues, including those relating to children.
This view has generated considerable controversy in Scotland, particularly over the issue of alleged transgender rapists. Rowling, the author of Harry Potter, has often led the charge against Sturgeon, whom she calls a “destroyer of women’s rights” for pushing a new transgender law in the Scottish Parliament.

Furthermore, the two women vying for top dog in the country, Ash Regan and Kate Forbes, openly praised Rowling’s anti-transgender campaign, saying the author was standing up for women in the country by speaking out.
“I think she’s brave,” Forbes said, before emphasizing that she disagrees with Rowling when it comes to the issue of “transgender rights.”
Even the party’s main progressive candidate and Sturgeon ally, Hamza Yusuf, was forced to pay homage to the author, agreeing with the Sky News director that Rowling was indeed a national treasure despite the fact that she held opinions he did not consider progressive enough.
“I think she’s done a great job with the books she’s written,” Youssef said. “I strongly disagree with her on the issue of transgender rights.”

The qualified praise for Rowling represented something of a sea of political change in Scotland, where progressive elements within the SNP had lost support to right-leaning elements within the organisation.
