A host of returning Blues have been selected in the Cambridge RUFC men’s and women’s teams for next weekend’s Varsity matches at Twickenham.
As expected, the men will miss former England international Toby Flood, who was due to be captain before suffering a serious injury during the Steel-Podgers game last November at Grange Road.
Instead, it will be Hooker Ben Gumbles – formerly of Bristol Rugby – who will captain the team at the home of English rugby on Saturday, March 25.
Tim Andrew, Max Loughridge, Lawrence Marwood and Stephen Clarke-Leonard are the four Blues included in the starting fifteen, while Danny Collins, Charles Favell and Alex King are among the substitutes in the selection of 23 players.
Tommaso Castello, who has 18 caps for Italy, is also an option to coach James Shanahan off the bench.
The women’s team, looking to protect their undefeated record in the match that stretches back to 2016, will be captained by Millie Bushrod.
She is one of the Eight Blues in the starting lineup, along with Nancy Twigg, Emily Bell, Laura Vass, Viani Gomezgil Yasbeck, Hita Friend, Hilda Schneemann and Rosemary Schwen.
The women’s match will start at 12 noon, and the men’s match will begin at 3 pm. Tickets for both games can be purchased by clicking this connection.
