The real estate developer’s proposal to his girlfriend is derailed after the Bahamas Immigration Service refuses her entry

A Miami real estate developer says his proposed plan was derailed when a bigoted immigration official denied his girlfriend and her sister entry to the Bahamas on suspicion of being sex workers.

Hal ‘Nuby’ Sears, 64, was planning to ask his girlfriend to marry him during a nine-day trip to the Bahamas, where they planned to stay on a 70-foot yacht.

Darina Pinzaru, 25, and her sister Ina, 36, from Moldova, were denied entry into “partiality” work and sent back to London, Sears told New York Post.

Sears, who met Pinzaro last summer in Romania, said officials turned her and her sister away after they arrived in the Bahamas in February, telling them, “I know why you’re here.”

What they went through was very terrifying. It is incomprehensible. They are prejudged.

Hal “Nobby” Sears, 64, was waiting for Pînzaru and her sister at the airport when an official told him, “They’re not in, they’re out.” Sears said he was planning to propose to her during the trip

“The only justice we want is an apology from the Bahamas government,” Sears said. “But we’ll never understand that, so we at least want other people to know they’re at risk of this kind of nefarious bias — there’s no other way to describe it.”

The original plan was for Pînzarus and 10 other guests to join Sears on his $5 million Pershing 7X yacht on a trip that would take them all over the Bahamas and on to Turks and Caicos.

Sears told The Post he had been waiting for the couple to arrive, but when Ina was about to get her passport stamped, Darina started having problems.

Ina said they were sent to an immigration office where they were interrogated about their plans and asked if they had money and a place to stay.

“We were treated like criminals,” Darina told the newspaper. “They even threatened to put us in jail.”

After she messaged Sears to tell him what was going on, he called for help from the Ocean Club Resort at the Four Seasons where he was staying and the hotel’s head of security arrived, according to the paper.

Both spoke with the immigration official, who they said showed no signs of budging.

“They’re not in, they’re out,” Sears recalls the official saying. “I have information, they are not coming.”

Ina described how they took the sisters’ phones, laptops, bags, and even took their fingerprints.

“Do you have the financial means to stay in the Bahamas?” Ina said she was asked. I said: yes, of course we have, we have cash, cards, no problem.

“I have apparently spoken to this lady, the head of the immigration office,” Ina told The Post. And she came out, gave us a quick look and said, “They won’t come in.” That’s it.’

“Up to this point, no one has explained anything to us,” Ina said. “As we were sitting outside, this lady, the head of immigration, came out and said, ‘Yes, I know your culture, I know why you are here,’” Ina said. “We don’t want you here, and you will never set foot on the soil of the Bahamas.”

The two were then put on another plane and flown back to London.

Sears says he later filed a complaint at the Bahamas Embassy in London on behalf of the sisters, but received no response.
