He was presented with the award in the Netherdale boardroom after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Cowdenebeath.

Kevin is the Director of Sales at Novomatic Gaming UK Ltd. , which was a sponsor of Saturday’s game.

Fittingly, Graeme McIver – who was the club’s secretary for the six years that Kevin was chairman – made the offer.

Graeme, chairman of the Gala Viridian Rovers Trust, said formal recognition of Kevin’s achievements at the club was long overdue.

He said: “Gala Fairydean Rovers FC will celebrate the tenth anniversary of the re-merging of Fairydean and Rovers into one entity this coming June.

“During that time the club has spent nine consecutive seasons in the Scottish Lowland League, the highest-ranked football club on the Scottish Borders, and has set up a charitable fund with hundreds of youth and junior footballers, women and girls, disabled and footballers, as well as £ £1.45 million refurbishment of the Netherdale-designed Peter Womersley iconic stand along with a new stadium and floodlight installation.

“In 2013 it was very different. Gala Viridian were playing in the second tier of the East of Scotland League, the club were tens of thousands of pounds in debt, there was no cohesive pathway for youngsters and junior footballers in the city and no community involvement programme.

“While the hard work of so many people came together to help create a new and improved entity, it took a fulcrum and drive to succeed. Kevin had the necessary skills, drive and enthusiasm to ensure this happened.

Having gone from coach at youth and youth level to leading merger discussions, Kevin became the first chairman of the newly formed club and for six years worked tirelessly to ensure Galashiels football was left in a much better shape than he found it.

“It is only fitting that Kevin’s impressive contribution to city football has been rewarded with a lifetime membership to Gala Fairydean Rovers FC.”
