Steven Gerrard breaks administrative silence on ‘Trabzonspor talks’

The former Rangers boss has been out of management since being sacked by Aston Villa in October last year.

Gerrard has since been linked with a number of positions, including Trabzonspor, but is yet to sign for the dotted line as he keeps his options open.

The Liverpool legend has now spoken out on his latest trip to Turkey, explaining that he has been working with Turkish Airlines and former Brazilian full-back Cafu.

“Fantastic few days in Istanbul with Turkish Airlines,” he wrote on Instagram.

Then he posted another photo with Cafu and the Champions League trophy and said: “A great few days in Istanbul with Cafu for Turkish airlines. A great city.”

The Champions League final returns to Istanbul this season for the first time since Liverpool’s stunning victory over AC Milan in 2005.

The Reds came from 3-0 down to defeat their Italian opponents via penalties in one of the most memorable finals in history.

Reports in Turkey had suggested that Gerrard had held talks with Trabzonspor during his visit, as they were looking for a manager.

Meanwhile, Connor Goldson hailed Rangers’ winning week as the perfect antidote to his final pain at last month’s Fiaplay Cup.

The Light Blues reeled after a 2-1 defeat at the hands of old rivals Celtic at Hampden Park last month.

However, Michael Bell’s side bounced back with a 3-1 home win against Kilmarnock last Saturday, a 4-1 win over Hibernian at Easter Road in midweek and a 3-0 Scottish Cup quarter-final victory over Championship side Raith Rovers. Jovan on Sunday.

Goldson, 30, who scored his third goal for good of the season with a header to break the deadlock against Ian Murray’s side, told RangersTV: “It’s been a good week.

“The previous week was really disappointing and we had the challenge to come back from that and we know at this football club that you are expected to win football games, so it’s been a good week.

“It wasn’t easy, two games at home and a trip to Easter Road, but we managed to get three wins which is important.

“We are in the semi-finals and we need to go to the final and then win this competition.”
