St. Patrick’s Day: Progressive Prez Shoehorns Fighting ‘Poisonous Xenophobia’, Climate Change, Into Annual Speech

The Irish president used his St. Patrick’s Day speech to condemn the growth of what he called “toxic xenophobia” around the world.

Michael D Higgins, the President of Ireland, said he attacked growing what he described as racism and “toxic xenophobia” in his annual St Patrick’s Day address.

Higgins, who has previously described attending anti-open borders protests as “unforgivable”, also compared the Irish patron saint to modern immigrants given that he was originally kidnapped and brought to the island from Britain as slaves.

to treat Ireland’s native Irish, as well as those “Irish by choice”, the chief argued that Patrick’s alleged immigrant status is evidence of the benefits foreign arrivals bring to the country, and that the saint serves as a “counterpoint” to those who would challenge the progressive multicultural outlook.

“There are many powerful echoes from Patrick’s life that resonate with our contemporary conditions, the ones that have brought new forms of slavery into being, where racism is increasing rather than decreasing, in too many parts of the world, where toxic xenophobia, new and remembered, has taken hold. in many places.”

He continued, “The story of Patrick’s transformation that would lead to him becoming the emblem of the country he adopted as his own stands in contrast and is of the utmost importance.”

The Irish president continued to use his rhetoric to push his green agenda to protect the environment, linking the story of St. Patrick – without apparent justification – to climate activism.

“At its core, St. Patrick’s message was to respect nature, for its spirituality is reflected in its seasonal renewal,” Higgins said without quoting.

Our planet is scarred by the consequences of human actions, actions often caused by greed, actions that have had a direct impact on our changing climate, and pose, as now, one of the greatest challenges of our time, reflected in extreme weather, large-scale displacement and forced migration. All over the world and the loss of fertile land. “It is a tragic injustice that those nations that suffer the greatest human and economic impact of climate change are those least responsible for the emissions that threaten their very existence.”

The Irish president’s use of St. Patrick’s Day to promote progressive ideals is not surprising given how keen many of the country’s elites have been to use the holiday to defend the many tenets of left-wing ideology.

This year’s festivities were peppered with calls for “diversity” and “inclusivity,” as the government fielded a group of drag queens to promote the annual festival within the country.

Weaponizing the holiday is also in keeping with Higgins’ own modus operandi, as the former Labor left minister has used his time in the ceremonial post largely to push many modern sensibilities on the likes of gender and immigration.

For example, amid a recent row sparked by the government wanting transgender education for elementary school students, Higgins said that schools should be forced to teach gender “in every sense of the word,” and that anyone who refuses should be punished by the state.

Higgins has also been embroiled in debates about freedom of speech internationally, repeatedly denouncing tech billionaire Elon Musk for his takeover of Twitter as “a form of dictatorship,” as well as “amazing and dangerous narcissism.”
