Polling opened for SNP members to vote for a new party leader this afternoon – with the three leadership candidates having submitted their bid on the SNP’s website.
The three candidates prepared a short manifesto to accompany their ballot packages, and the SNP candidates have recorded a short video for the SNP website.
The SNP’s national secretary, Lorna Finn, said: “The polling door for SNP members to vote to choose a new party leader is now open and the three candidates to become SNP leader have made their bids for SNP members on our website.
On my instructions, Mi-voice sends emails to all eligible party members this afternoon with a link allowing them to vote online, and anyone without a verified email address is automatically sent a ballot paper.
All three candidates participated in a national campaign.
They have taken part in nine caucuses – eight of which cover every Scottish parliamentary region.
“It was full houses across Scotland and tens of thousands of people have tuned into the digital SNP platforms to watch online.
“There has never been a lot of interest in the party leadership contest in Scotland. So I thank Kate, Ash and Hamza for sharing their vision and plans and for all their efforts so far.
Campaigning and televised debates continue but polling is now open, on a one vote to one member basis.
“The polling process will remain open until noon on Monday, March 27.”
