The rusty Buckie Ladies’ ring just failed to have an end-to-end thing with the Elgin City Ladies.
The new kids came to Gordon Park, Portgordon to face the two-time Highland and Islands League and Cup winners in a pre-season friendly.
Young right winger Sky Milne had a dream start as he put Bucky up 1-0 before the visitors equalized. Lawrie Lappin restored the home side’s lead before Elgin tied them up again. Alaina Gardiner again got Buckie up front before City scored twice to seal the match.
Bucky’s manager Laura Duncan said: “It was a very close match.
“We haven’t played a full game since October so it’s never been easy for us. There are two new faces in the squad and we had a few players missing in the game.
“Despite the result, I am generally happy with the performance. Elgin may be a new team but they have a lot of experienced players, and they will be a very good team once they start.
“I was happy Sky was scoring, she was over the moon. She’s an under-16 player knocking on the door to get into the first team. Gemma Geddes has had another excellent game at full-back, later filling in for center half. She’s consistent and dependable.
“Overall, though, the team played well.”
The Buckie Ladies kicked off their league campaign on Sunday, April 2 away to last season’s title rivals, the Clash.
Duncan added, “The Clash lost quite a few players so we’re not really sure what to expect.
“However, they are never a team you underestimate.”
The game is scheduled to launch at 3 p.m. — stay tuned Boki Ladies’ Facebook page For match detail updates and other club news.
