Sir Rod Stewart says he canceled a show in Australia because he was told he had a “viral infection”.
The 78-year-old singer-songwriter, who has had six UK chart-toppers including Baby Jane and Maggie May, was scheduled to perform at A Day On The Green venue in Mt Duneed Estate, Geelong.
He posted a statement on Twitter saying he was “completely disappointed” at being “disappointed” with fans and working so hard to get back on stage.
Sir Rudd added: “Late this morning I was informed that I had a viral infection and that my throat was too irritated to sing.
“I’m just human and sometimes (I) get sick just like you. My greatest happiness is performing for you, so I do everything in my power to get you to recover and get back on stage.”
American musician Cyndi Lauper, 69, and New Zealand singer John Stevens, 61, were scheduled to appear alongside the British star.
Sir Road is next scheduled to play at the AEC Arena in Adelaide on Tuesday before undertaking five more Australian dates, which include stops at Mt Cotton and Sydney.
Subsequently, he will play in New Zealand, Mexico, the United States, Ireland, the United Kingdom and Spain between April and September.
An earlier statement, by Live Nation and Roundhouse Entertainment, canceling the show read: “We apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience to the ticket holders.
Another announcement regarding the concert arrangements will be made early next week.
Sir Rudd previously postponed his Australian tour dates last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic saying he was “absolutely devastated”.
His latest album, The Tears Of Hercules, released in 2021, reached No. 5 in the UK charts.
