The Aberdeenshire Council Ranger Service will take a tour around the remains of WWI Longside airship base in Lenabo on Sunday 26th March from 11am – 1.30pm.

Although the conifers are overgrown, the foundations of the three anchor sheds (323-711 feet long) can still be laid.

This site used to be a huge undertaking with administrative, domestic and engineering facilities all close by.

Why this 950-acre estate was chosen is a mystery.

Having been cleared by thousands of workers with the help of steam shovels and bucket cranes, from thousands of tons of wet peat, it took just under a year for the base to be ready for operation.

This is a little known story that deserves to be heard again.
