More than 1,600 runners took part in the Chariots of Fire on Sunday, raising tens of thousands of money for the Arthur Rank Hospice in the process.

The relay, which includes six teams, is now in its 30th year and started, as always, at Queen’s Green.
The 1.7-mile circular running course took runners through downtown, taking Silver Street, Kings Parade and Garrett Hostel Lane.

It is hoped the sponsorship money raised will reach the target of £71,000, which will enable the charity to add to its portfolio of five stores and one retail centre.

Wendy von Nebel, trustee of the HCR Hewitsons Charitable Trust, which organizes Toon, said, “This year is very special – we are celebrating 30 years of Chariots of Fire and 40 years of the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity – which was chosen this year.”
