Sir Roger Moore’s son Geoffrey — also known as Jaffa — joined the pop culture fray on Thursday to declare that the role of James Bond should only be played by men.

The offspring of the late musician said it simply “wouldn’t be James Bond” if a woman took on the iconic role of Ian Fleming’s international spy.

Moore, 56, “Well, it’s not about James Bond anymore” UK Express said. “I mean, it could be 006 or 008 or 009…it wouldn’t be the same because it’s Bond. It’s Fleming’s Bond. He’s a man, unfortunately.”

Moore’s comments come after the title “007” was passed down to Lashana Lynch’s character at the end of the latest Bond installment No Time to Die, which marked the end of Daniel Craig’s tenure as the iconic spy.

“Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a role as good as James Bond, but for a woman?” Craig said in an interview With Radio Times.

Celebrity franchise producer Barbara Broccoli also made the statement in 2020 Talk to Variety.

“James Bond could be any color, but he’s male,” said the 61-year-old. “I think we have to make new characters for women — strong female characters.”
