On Sunday December 13, social media was thrown into pandemonium when reports of Nigeria fast-rising sensational singers Omah Lay and Tems been arrested by Uganda Metropolitan Police surfaced online. The artistes together with their managers were charged for violating the country’s Covid 19 guidelines which banned large gatherings at music concerts, bars,sporting arenas etc when they held an illegal concert at Ddungu Resort in Munyonyo.

They were apprehended by the police force and taken into custody at Kitalya Prison(for Omah Lay) and Kigo prison (for Tems) before been arraigned in the court.

A video from the arraignment in court which was held on Monday 14 December,showing the stars been handcuffed has gone viral. In the video, the Manager of sensational singer Tems expressed disappointment at the way they were been treated like criminals. In the same video Omah Lay was also seen complaining bitterly about how he is being mishandled by the police.

In a series of tweets on the singers page following his arraignment,he questioned why he wasn’t allowed to talk,and also revealed that the Ugandan Officials have refused to speak to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nigeria who have been trying to reach them to resolve the issue and have been using his case to play politics.

According to reports,they were remanded in Luzira Prison till Wednesday,Dec 16 where they await further court trial/jurisdiction.

The viral video has brought an outcry from fans of both stars as well as rage from fellow celebrities. Celebrities like Burnaboy, Laycon, Teni, Sound Sultan, Peter Okoye among other stars have reacted to the news. They all called for the release of the singers and questioned why the Promoters and Organisers of the shows were not charged to court.
