A controversial doctor and GOP activist has been expelled from the Texas Senate after he erupted into an angry rant about sex-change procedures for minors, calling its supporters “pedophiles.”
Dr. Houston Stephen Hotze, 72, used his time speaking before the Senate State Affairs Committee to denounce proposed transgender legislation, arguing that “pedophile proponents sex with children in order to groom them.”
His raging remarks led to a tense back-and-forth with Texas Democratic Sen. Jose Menendez, as the two men began arguing across the legislature floor.
Despite making several outlandish remarks, including saying that sex reassignment surgeons should drown themselves, Hotze was not expelled from the session until after he broke Senate rules on oaths.
In addition to running his medical practice, Hotze is a conservative radio host and alleged conspiracy theorist who has filed lawsuits against HIV drugs and claimed that birth control pills make women “less attractive to men.”

Houston physician Stephen Hotze, left, was expelled from the Texas Senate Thursday after an angry rant, including calling sex reassignment surgeons “pedophiles.”
The two men broke out during a hearing to discuss Texas Senate Bill 14, which would legalize “transgender, gender reassignment, or gender dysphoria” among minors, according to LegiScan.
Supporting the bill, Hotze said he believes the legislation “will protect children from abuse by the transgender medical industry.”
He went on to describe trans supporters as having an “evil, perverted and immoral lifestyle”.
“These pedophiles must be punished,” Hotzi said.
“These pedophiles are now promoting sex-change drugs and child mutilation surgery.”
Amid references to various Bible verses, the doctor reiterated his claim that transgender advocates are “pedophiles”.
However, the doctor then said startlingly that those assisting with sex-change procedures would be “better put a millstone around your neck and throw yourself into the sea and drown”.
He added, “The idea that a man can claim to be a woman, or vice versa, is absurd and unscientific.” “It is a perversion of God because of the natural order.”

Hotze has had several past confrontations with LGBT advocates, including the LGBT branding of “Termite” in 2016
Hotez’s aggressive remarks angered Senator Menendez, who seemed to get emotional when he criticized frequent references to transgender individuals as “pedophiles.”
The two men argue back and forth in footage for several minutes, during which a voice believed to be Menendez can be heard whispering “wow, wow, wow” the entire time.
He said: Dr. Hotzi, I know you are a doctor and a professional. I would just ask you to refrain from calling me pedophiles, because I don’t think the doctors who came before us today are pedophiles.
Hotez responded, “By definition they are pedophiles.”
Menendez said that while a doctor might “have your reasons” for going out for the legislation, he added, “I don’t think it’s appropriate for you to contact people you don’t know as pedophiles.”
“But I know,” Hotez argued.
I have trans friends, I have trans employees, I have trans members in my community, and what do you do when you contact them [pedophiles]”That’s what they are,” said Menendez, before Hotze answered again.
After interrupting each other several times, the state senator said, “(Trans people) are not pedophiles, they live as their true selves.”
This led Hotze to yell, “That’s bull****” — at which point Republican state senator and committee chairman Brian Hughes kicked him out of the session.
Hotez’s foul tirade isn’t his first outing with gay rights advocates.
According to the Houston ChronicleThe doctor compared homosexuals to “termites” at a conservative convention in 2016, arguing that they “eat the moral fabric of our country’s foundation”.
He has publicly endorsed Donald Trump’s debunked claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen, and he reportedly faces two counts of criminal indictment for his alleged involvement in a failed ‘voter fraud’ investigation that led to PI holding an air-conditioning repairman at gunpoint.
