Mexican authorities claim that they have no information about the kidnapping of a US citizen in the coastal state of Colima. This is despite the reward offered by the FBI for information about her disappearance.
On Thursday, the FBI issued a press release offering a $20,000 reward for information on the whereabouts of 63-year-old Maria del Carmen Lopez, a US citizen who was kidnapped from her home in Pueblo Nuevo, Colima.
After the kidnapping, the Colima Prosecutor’s Office claimed that no kidnapping complaint had been filed in the case and they had no information, Global mentioned. They referred all inquiries to the Mexican Attorney General’s Office (FGR) claiming that the case was handled by the Organized Crime Unit.
The news of a new kidnapping of a US citizen in Mexico comes at a time of great political tensions between the two countries following the kidnapping of 4 other US citizens on March 3 in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, where two of the kidnapping victims died at the hands of. Gulf Cartel.
As reported by Breitbart Texas, because of the significant political pressure in the Matamoros incident, officials have sent hundreds of soldiers and police officers to that city. Ultimately, however, it was the Gulf Cartel who handed over five of their gunmen next to a poster board asking for forgiveness. The case led to an ongoing investigation implicated senior city officials in allowing the Gulf Cartel access to city ambulances used to transport kidnap victims around the city.
