Melrose Sevens fans urged to wear Doddie’s tartan

He earned 61 caps for Scotland during his successful football career, represented the British and Irish national teams on their successful tour to South Africa in 1997, and won trophies with his clubs, Melrose and Newcastle Falcons.

Doddie was also part of the Hopefuls side that won the Melrose Sevens in 1993.

Doddie tartan, including scarves and hats, will be sold at Fanzone’s merchandise outlet.

“Oor Doddie” also returns to the Greenyards for the perfect photo opportunity to show your support for the big guy.

As a sign of Doddie’s respect, the Melrose Pipe Band will play a performance of Flower of Scotland before the final.

The Foundation continues to shine a spotlight on MND and has raised significant funds through the incredible efforts of its supporters, pledging over £8m to MND research during this time and over £1.5m to support families living with MND.

Donations can be made to the charity using the QR code available on the Melrose Sevens 2023 programme. The code will also appear next to ‘Oor Doddie’.

Championship Director Phil Morris commented: “Everyone at Melrose Rugby misses Doddie very much and we hope we can make a small but fitting tribute to the big man of the 70s this year as well as help continue to raise money in the fight to rid the world of MND.”
