The #1 best seed killer

Former UMBC coach Ryan Odom, best known for defeating top-seeded Virginia in 2018, is back in the tournament for the first time since that historic crisis.

Now in Utah, the Aggies have one of the most effective offenses in the country.

Everything is bigger in Texas, including the chances of being crowned a national champion in his home state.

Houston (Final Four site), Texas and Baylor are all in the tournament’s top three, seeking to become the first school since 1975 (UC San Diego) to win the event in the same state as it.

Better “Do you miss me now?”

Seton Hall fans were excited to land St. Peter’s coach Shaheen Holloway to replace Kevin Willard, especially after the Pirates suffered a 27-point blast in the first round last year.

A year later, Seton Hall was not on the field while Willard led a surprise Maryland team at the Big Dance.

Best farewell

CBS announcer Jim Nantz, who first began covering the NCAA tournament as a play-by-play man and studio host in 1986, will call his final games this year.

A graduate of the University of Houston, he could broadcast his alma mater winning a championship in the city where he attended college.

Kansas State’s Contay Johnson collapsed on the field while playing for Florida in 2020 and was hospitalized, then placed in a medically induced coma.

He returned to the field two seasons later after moving on, and led the surprising Wildcats to a championship.
