The Detroit Lions saw a host of David Montgomery, who spent his first four seasons in the NFC North with the Chicago Bears.
They need to return next season, and are expected to get him to sign a three-year contract once the new league year opens at 4pm on March 15th.
The deal is expected to be worth $18 million, according to ESPN.

While the Lions still have D’Andre Swift on the depth chart, last season’s leading NFL scorer, Jamal Williams, is a free agent, which means two spots have opened up in Detroit.
Montgomery has been the Bears’ starting backbone since he was selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Iowa.

On the Lions, Montgomery could have made himself the backbone of the team as much as Williams. Swift can trade in and out with him, especially in passing situations.
However, the Lions see a lot in Swift, despite making him take a back seat to Williams in his third season.
