ENTRIES ARE ACCEPTED for this year’s Keith Traditional Music and Song Society (TMSA) Doric Written Competitions.

There are three separate competitions that can be entered into – one for under-12s, one for over-12s and one for a joint effort between an adult and a child.

All entries are accepted for the Ian Middleton Competition (under 12), the Charles Murray Competition (composition), and the Oltgory Poetry Competition (12+).

Entries for the Ian Middleton and Aultgowrie competitions must consist of one or more verses of a poem written in Doric. There is a limit of two entries per person per contest.

Poetry can be on any subject, but must be written specifically for this year’s TMSA League Writing Competition and not previously entered in another competition.

Charles Murray’s Intergenerational Competition shall be a poem or prose written jointly by persons of different generations in Scots.

Children (young or old) should enlist the help of anyone from a different generation, for example, parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins or even friends to help pass down the Scots language through the generations.

Winners will receive a beautiful silver piece with Charles Murray engraved on the front, which was designed by local artist Joyce Thane and donated by local businesswoman Margaret Cruikshank of Mither Tongue.

Again, there is a maximum of two entries for the contest, the work must be original and written specifically for the contest.

In addition, there is a Music Composition category. This could be a composition of any Scottish tune. There is only one entry per person and it must be an original composition written specifically for this contest.

The deadline for all entries is 9pm on Sunday, May 14th. Entries can be emailed to keithfestival@gmail.com or sent to Joyce Dawson, 124 Moss Street, Keith, Banffshire, AB55 5EZ.
