Syrian air defenses intercepted several missiles, the ministry added.

During more than a decade of war in Syria, Israel has launched hundreds of airstrikes on Syrian territory.

Although Israel rarely comments on its strikes on Syria, it has repeatedly said it will not allow its arch-enemy Iran to expand its footprint there.

Last month, an Israeli air strike killed 15 people in an area of Damascus where state security agencies are based, the Observatory said at the time.
