Hawick: Fourth unit to host a comedy show for International Women’s Day

Organized by A Woman’s Perspective – a creative platform founded by Unit 4: Julie Whitford, Special Projects Manager at The Cornucopia Chamber, and Susan Hart, Scottish Borders LGBT Equality Trustee – woman standing It will give performers space to share their experiences of being a woman.

The event, which will take place on Sunday, March 5, will feature six female comedians in celebration of International Women’s Day (March 8).

Suzanne said: “2019 has been a huge success female writers For International Women’s Day (IWD) and now in 2023 International Women’s Day we are holding woman standingwhich is an event we’ve wanted to do for two years and we’re really looking forward to it.

We have six diverse women who, in addition to their comedy routines, will participate in a panel discussion about the highest levels of consciousness of women in a perceived masculine environment.

“The event is for women only and this year, in addition to being supported by the Rape Crisis Center Scottish Borders – which supports the event every year – we will be part-funded by Unison the Scottish Borders Branch who will encourage women to join the union.

“We hope women enjoy this day and provide a safe space to chat, make friends, and especially laugh.”

Bonnie Fairbras will arrange the day, and her fellow comedians will include Viv G, Lupna Kerr, Amelia Payler, Julia Galastro, and Jane Walker.

Open to all women — including trans women — and non-binary people, the event will also include a panel discussion as well as food and refreshments.

The first A Woman’s Perspective event was held in Unit 4 on December 4, 2018, to celebrate the 16 Days of Action Against Domestic Violence.

All seating tickets are sold out, but standing tickets are still available.

Tickets are free, with a suggested £5 donation, and can be purchased at the door.
