Glasgow cinemas screen Oscar-nominated films before the awards are handed out

Some of the most prestigious pictures of the year return to the Vue Theaters in St Enoch and Glasgow Fort.

Cinema bosses have introduced Back on the Big Screen screenings so viewers can catch blockbusters again before the 95th Academy Awards on March 13.

Among those returning is the sci-fi thriller Everything Everywhere All At Once, which was nominated for an impressive 11 Academy Awards and 10 BAFTA Awards.

Michelle Yeoh plays a jaded Chinese immigrant in America whose life is changed as she explores other universes that connect to the parallel lives she could have had.

Also presented is Martin McDonagh’s masterpiece The Banshees of Inisherin’, with its brilliant performances from Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson that led to nine Academy Award nominations and 10 BAFTA nominations.

Glasgow times:

Set on a remote island off the west coast of Ireland in the 1920s, the film follows lifelong friends Padraic and Colm, who find themselves in trouble after Colm decides he no longer wants to be friends with Padraic.

Other candidates returning to the big screen include the musical biopic of the “king” of rock and roll, Elvis.

Starring Austin Butler in the titular role and Tom Hanks as its director, Baz Luhrmann’s film was nominated for eight Academy Awards.

Glasgow times:

The historical epic The Woman King starring Viola Davis, who was nominated for Best Actress, and the period drama Afterson was highly praised for the performances of the cast including Paul Mescal.
