Angry shoppers have condemned Tesco for again reducing the value of Clubcard rewards vouchers as they protest “spend more, get less”.
The supermarket giant announced this week that it is reducing the value of Clubcard vouchers spent with Reward partners for the second time in five years.
As part of the Clubcard scheme, customers can use the vouchers at Tesco stores, but can also currently triple their value by redeeming them for access to over 100 Reward Partners – including Disney+, Thorpe Park, Pizza Express and Cineworld.
The scheme originally saw shoppers able to increase the value of their coupons by 2x or even 4x, but this was reduced to a standard 3x in 2018 – also sparking a revolt among shoppers at the time.
Now, from June 14th, Clubcard vouchers will only be worth twice their value if redeemed at any of Tesco’s Reward Partners.

The announcement was met with outrage, with irate shoppers calling the move an “insult to customers”.
As angry shoppers poured in on social media amid the cost-of-living crisis, one user said: ‘So…we all have to spend more at Tesco doing our food stores, but get less rewarded for it. Thanks for supporting Tesco.
Another added: ‘Tesco clubcard vouchers depreciated again? It was 4x, then 3x, and now 2x? A loyalty scheme that shows diminishing returns to that loyalty – an insult to customers while still making record profits. gross. # how_longontail 1
A third weight in the controversial move, adding: ‘Dear @tesco. The email return coupon exchange value just changed to 2x, not 3x the value. Really disappointing! Not so long ago it was worth 4 times the value. Are you not making enough profit already?
Meanwhile, a fourth complained: ‘We were always grateful for the Clubcard X4 when our children were younger, it helped us out a lot on holidays, and we used our vouchers to buy Merlin cards which saved us a lot of money. We now use it ourselves and the X3 is fine, but what an insult the #X2 is to customers! “
Tesco notified shoppers of the move via email – and on their website – announcing: From 14th June 2023, when you redeem your Tesco Clubcard vouchers for a Tesco Clubcard Reward Partner Code, they will be worth twice their value. You’ll still get up to 3 times the value through June 13, 2023.
We are making this change to the scheme to ensure that we can continue to offer a wide range of rewards that meet the needs of all Tesco Clubcard members, while keeping prices low for everyone.
“Tesco Clubcard continues to have the largest and most generous rewards partner scheme with access to over 100 partners at twice the value of your Clubcard voucher.”
Tesco has more than five million customers, and they offer products that include pet insurance, savings accounts, and credit cards.
