The 26-year-old underwent life-saving 10-hour surgery last weekend and slipped into an induced coma.

He is now slowly coming out of anesthesia and staying in intensive care.

a Gofundme Appeal Launched yesterday it has already crossed the £11,000 mark and includes a £500 donation from Australian international footballer Jason Cummings who was a childhood friend.

McGregor, the professional boxer’s best friend, told me: “Scott will have a long road to recovery, but we’re so grateful he’s still here with us because things could have been different.

“Scott joined and was about to start a new company and won’t be able to return to work for a long time due to the seriousness of what happened to him.

“So any help to help his family cover the bills and live to a full recovery will be a heavy burden on their shoulders.”

Fairydean Rovers Chairman of Gala Ryan Cass said: “I have kept in touch with Scott who has been a huge figure during his time at the club.

“Everyone at the Gala Fairydean Rovers send our best wishes to him and we all pray for his speedy recovery.”

Former Vale of Leithen coach Joe Murray who was a team mate of Scott’s at Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale said: “Scott is an absolute winner and a fighter who always shows great determination and hopefully he will be back playing soon.

“I would like to send him my best wishes for a speedy recovery.”
