Florida’s ugly dog was adopted after a heartbreaking viral post

Everything is clutch.

The shelter announced that the “ugly” Florida puppy whose heartbreaking struggle for adoption went viral last year has been welcomed into a loving home.

Lena—formerly a duchess—is now the “darling” of a family of four: she joins the couple who adopted her and her “rotten spoils,” another rescue dog said. Dream Dog Rescue, Inc. , who rescued her from a shelter in Orlando.

Lena even had surgery to remove the under eye deformities that made her adoption so difficult.

The pup—who succumbed because of his landlord’s problem—was born with large keloids, or tufts of skin and fur, under each eye.

Orange County Animal Services appealed to the public just before the December holiday in hopes of finding Lena’s forever home – and to express their grief over the harsh comments they heard from visitors talking about this unique dog.

“She looks so ugly,” “How much will this cost me?” And “never get adopted” were just some of the judgments people made as they scurried past Lena’s shelter, pretending not to notice her, Shelter said.

“We know that sitting in an animal shelter, day in and day out, watching people pass by across from those bars must take its toll. It’s especially hard when no one stops to look at you. When you have to watch, the shelter wrote in a heartbreaking post. Other dogs are pulled, taken out, and brought home.”

“The heartbreaking part is that Duchess absolutely adores everyone. She rushes to the kennel doors every single day, excited about the new day, relentlessly optimistic. For her, every day brings new people and, with that, new hope for adoption. Duchess never knows a bad day.”

The post was shared thousands of times and comments flooded in from hundreds of interested parties until the pup was finally bonded with her new family.

The couple, who have not been identified, took Lena home just weeks after she broke the internet.

They helped her through a successful deformity surgery and take her regularly on hiking trips and other adventures, Rescue Dogs Dream, Inc. announced.

Since settling into her forever home, Lena has graduated from a Level 1 dog training class and is on her way to Level 2 training followed by a Good Canine Citizen class.

Her new family called her “the sweetest dog they’d ever met,” but admitted that she still caused some problems.

“She’s still a counter surfer and has helped herself to some butter sticks and cheeseburgers from the grill but we’re working on it,” reports the rescue shelter.

“She’s so cute, just loves to play and be around us all the time…she’s such an amazing girl and we love her so much!!”
