Emma Raducano beats Beatriz Haddad-Maia to reach the round of 16 from Indian Wells

Emma Raducano advanced to the last 16 at Indian Wells for the first time as she powered through to a 6-1 2-6 6-4 victory over 13th seed Beatrice Haddad-Maia.

Raducano, who overcame a wrist injury and illness, had to battle out more than two hours before claiming what would be her best win since winning the US Open in 2021.

Raducanu’s serve was in full flow as she cruised through the opening set within 34 minutes, but left it in the second set, with the Briton double-faulting four times as mourning Maya turned the tide and Raducanu dropped her first set of the tournament.

The world number 77 saved a break point to keep the score at 2-2 before breaking through the Brazilian to lead 4-3.

She put up two more break points, but Haddad Maya got her to serve, which she duly did.

Raducanu will play either world number one Iga Swiatek or Bianca Andreescu in the next round.
