Mason Maycock, who attends Galashiels Boxing Club, won the titles at the 2023 Scottish National Boxing Championships and Junior Golden Gloves Championship on Saturday, February 25, 2023.

The youngster from Melrose beat Camryn Talbot, of Keir Hardie Boxing Club, in the prestigious event held at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell.
After three grueling rounds of boxing, the judges named him the winner by split decision 3-2.

Galashiels Boxing Club coach Stephen Ross said: “Everyone at the club is delighted and proud of Mason. To win a Scottish Open class title in his first season is amazing.
“It was a close fight but I think Mason hit the cleanest shot.”
Mason Raven’s mom said, “The whole family is so proud of him. He’s always loved boxing and is a huge fan of the Rocky and Muhammad Ali movies. This is where he got his feet dancing style.”
He already watched Creed 2 before the weekend’s fight.
“I didn’t go to Ravenscraig because he can get a little nervous when family is there but he was very happy when he came home, showing his medal.
“You watched the fight on YouTube and you can see by his reaction at the end what it means to him.
“He has always been athletic and also plays rugby, but boxing is his favorite and he wants to be a champion. He never misses a training.”
But Mason, who fights at 34 kg, wasn’t the only winner from Borderlands. His sparring partners, Hawick Boxing Club duo Ivan Watson and Max Vevers, joined him on the platform.
