Connor Stratton has pleaded guilty to shouting, insults, threats of violence and sparring with his grandfather at the party at a house in Hawthornbank, Dunes, during the early hours of 1 January last year.
Drew Long, the financial attorney, said the accused had been drinking alcohol, had arguments with family members and then lost his temper.
He started shouting and swearing and threatened to stab one of them.
His grandfather intervened to try to calm him down but a physical struggle ensued and they fell to the ground.
Defense attorney Matt Patrick said his client was very ashamed of the turn of events and added that he had been drinking too much.
