Melrose replaced two-time Paralympian Robert McPherson who had to withdraw due to illness.
Melrose Charlotte McKenna participated in the event, which will be held in conjunction with the World Wheelchair Championships.
The former Melrose firefighter made his World Wheelchair Championships debut in 2019 when Scotland won silver on home snow and last competed at the elite level at the Paralympics in Beijing in 2022.
And in Canada, he made his professional debut in the new discipline that will be introduced in the schedule of the Paralympic Games Milan – Cortina 2026.
Ahead of the event, he said: “Obviously that’s not how you want to get the call-up and I know how I felt when I missed out on the World Championships in 2020 because I wasn’t fit to go, so I know Bob (McPherson) will be disappointed, but I also know he’ll bounce back.” Once again and he will be more determined to choose again and I wish him a speedy recovery.
“I’ve been socializing since leaving the program last year which has kept my hands on and I love this new system. I personally find it more mentally and physically demanding because you’re throwing more stones and my partner Charlotte has really helped me.
“It’s been great to be back with my teammates again, it’s always an honor to rise so high in Scotland and represent your country, and I’m also really looking forward to my debut in Canada.”
The duo lost their first match 9-3 to Hungary on Saturday, March 4, and then the next day they were defeated by China 10-3.
On Monday 6 March, they lost 8-0 to Slovakia and 11-6 to Norway.
Scotland’s first win came on Tuesday, 7 March, when they beat Estonians 10-9 and the next day they picked up another win, beating Switzerland 11-3.
On Thursday, March 9, they lost 7-6 to Finland but the next day defeated the United States 6-1.
The final match of the tournament ended in a 9–8 victory over Poland which meant Scotland finished fourth in Group A.
