Cambridge United have decided to recall Louis Simper from his loan spell at Woking.
The quarterback, who made 16 appearances for the U during the first half of the season, joined the National League team on a deal through the end of the season last month.
However, Simper found it difficult to get playing time at Laithwaite Community Stadium. He made just two substitute appearances and was not included in the tour squad on five occasions.
As a result, United boss Mark Bonner chose to bring the 21-year-old back to the Abbey Stadium.
“We need a little bit of covering ourselves up for an illness or two with bumps and injuries – so we need to make sure we’re covered in that sense,” he said.
“The second thing is just looking at the other team’s plan. Whether he’s also a part, he should go and join someone else’s team and he wasn’t able to do that. And then his training program is greatly influenced by their game schedule and days and days, things like that.
“It’s better if he’s not here in our team then not in theirs because we can fully cater for him during the week and make sure he finishes the season strong in the gym, he’s got the training sessions and some playing opportunities might come his way.
“It was a good loan in the first period to see if he can join their team but it hasn’t happened often and we’ve been shouting we’d take him back and get anything for him here, but it’s most important to give him as comprehensive a program as possible over the course of the week.”
