British Wool has launched its exclusive competition for one YFC member from England, Scotland and Wales to win a place on the organisation’s training and development program in 2023.
Supporting the training and development of the next generation of wool shearers and handlers is critical to the UK’s thriving sheep sector and to ensuring the highest standards.
The British Wool program will see the successful candidate gain one year’s free entry to British Wool training courses, including machine shearing (2 courses), gear training and wool handling.
Successful entrants will also be invited to Bradford to visit the British Wool head office to find out more about the wool processing chain.
Anyone, with or without previous mowing experience, can apply to win one of three available places on this exciting training and development programme.
To enter the competition, you will need to submit a short video clip or send an email explaining why you have chosen this opportunity.
Former Scotland winner Duncan McDiarmid of Perthshire said: “The shearing training and development program has given me the opportunity to not only improve shearing skills and techniques but also gain knowledge about wool handling, machine and gear.
“This has allowed me to improve my shearing by combining shearing cycles and learning about the processes of wool after it has been removed from sheep.”
The deadline for entry is 14th April and the competition will be judged by a panel of industry experts from the British shearing and wool sector. The competition is also supported by Lister Shearing who will provide a package of shearing equipment to each winning country.
Competition winners are expected to work with British Wool by sharing their training journey over a 14-month period on social media, in the press and online.
Please email shearing@britishwool.org.uk for more information on the contest rules and how to enter.
