Brandon Miller, a freshman at Alabama State, walked to practice Wednesday next to armed security, two months after he was linked to a fatal shooting.
The guard was wearing an Alabama jersey on the field during practice at Legacy Arena in Birmingham.
Miller was a witness to the murder of a 23-year-old woman near the Alabama campus after he moved the weapon used.

“If you’ve seen some of what I’ve seen his way, I think you’ll understand why that’s the case,” Alabama coach Nate Oates explained. “I don’t want to go into all of that. The whole situation, you know, is just heartbreaking on all levels.”
Miller did not go into detail about the guard.
“I always travel safely to all games,” he said. “That’s all I will say about that.”
Oates added: “Some of the messages are from people who can sit behind fake email addresses, but who knows if they are real or not. But if you saw what I saw, you would understand what is happening now.”
Former Bama basketball player Darius Miles legally owned the gun and had previously left it in Miller’s car. Miller led it to Miles who allegedly gave it to Michael Davies, who is accused of firing the fatal shot.
Miller’s connection to the shooting was not revealed for more than a month afterward. However, he has stayed out of legal trouble, and the police said there was nothing they could charge him with. Miles and Davis were charged with first degree murder.
Because of this, Miller missed no time, a move that the league and Oats have consistently defended.

“We took it very seriously from day one. I called him the first moment I got the information [athletic director] Greg [Byrne]And we talked about it and its seriousness,” Oats said last month. I thought Greg did a great job addressing those comments on Wednesday, and I don’t have much to add to them.
“We feel we did the right thing in this case. So I’ll leave it at that with Greg’s comments.”
Miller drew further criticism shortly after it was revealed that he had continued his observing ritual during pre-match lineup announcements. However, Oatmeal said the inspection will no longer occur.

Miller was recently named SEC Player of the Year and Tournament MVP. He’s projected to be a top five NBA Draft pick this summer, and some think he could make it to #2.
