Rachel Hamilton, who represents the Conservative Party for Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire, advises Borderers to avoid walking through farm fields unnecessarily.
The Borders MSP said: “I know I share a lot of my components with a love of walking and exploring our beautiful borders.
“However, with pregnancy and childbirth in full swing, please avoid walking across the fields unnecessarily.”
Dog owners can be fined up to £40,000, sent to jail, or both if their dog is found restless or attacking livestock – including alpacas and game birds.
Lady Hamilton asks dog owners to enjoy the countryside responsibly by following the Scottish Outdoor Access Act, avoiding fields with livestock and keeping their dogs on leads.
She added: “Don’t take your dog into fields where there are lambs, calves or other small animals.
Please abide by the signs that farmers have placed a warning of gestational fields.
“The countryside is still a working environment and we need to keep that in mind, at all times of the year.”
