Baba Ijesha arraigned in court; denied bail by Lagos State Magistrate Court



Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James Omiyinka aka Baba Ijesha, has been charged to court.

The embattled actor who was arraigned to Court yesterday, June 15 was denied bail by Lagos State Magistrate Court.

The judge at the Magistrate’s Court in Lagos State decline to grant the actor his bail application.

Baba Ijesha who has been in police custody since April 22nd,2021 was brought to the court in a black Maria vehicle of the Rapid Response Squad. The actor was seen wearing a blue t-shirt with a face mask on.

Baba Ijesha was accused of raping his colleague, Comedian Princess’s foster daughter. A CCTV footage showed him molesting and sexually assaulting the 14 year old minor.

Though the actor was granted bail by  Magistrates and judicial workers who were on tour to decongest prisons in the state during the judicial strike on May 17,2021. The actor could not meet up with his bail terms which includes N500,000 and two sureties : a family member and a level 16 civil servant.

According to one of his lawyers, Kayode Olabinran, Baba Ijesha wasn’t granted bail because his case as been filed to the Lagos High Court by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions in the state and at such it is not within the Magistrate court jurisdiction to grant him bail.

He said : ” He (Baba Ijesha) was not granted bail because the case has been filed at the High Court and that has denied the Magistrate Court the power to grant him bail”.

He also revealed that the date for hearing at the High Court has not been ascertain.

Yomi Fabiyi, a colleague of Baba Ijesha, who was present at the court spoke to reporters and said “justice must not be dispensed with personal sentiment”.
