Arthur’s Eels extension complete, closed to 2025

Parramatta doubled down on their belief in Brad Arthur, enacting a clause in the coach’s long-term contract to keep him at the Eels until the end of 2025.

The club confirmed on Wednesday that the 48-year-old’s stay had been extended beyond the end of his initial 2024 contract, which was signed prior to reaching the Grand Final last year.

The deal means Arthur’s stay at Parramatta will last at least 12 seasons, during a period when his future was in question despite regular appearances in the finals.

In Arthur the Eels are confident they have a manager who can finally break their 37-year premiership drought after losing last year to Penrith.

“We’ve come a long way as a club on and off the field in recent years and Brad has played a major part in our success,” said Chairman Sean McElduff.

“Our NRL team has played Finals Football consistently since 2019, and never did last season.

“The players love him and we’ve seen many of them develop into better players under his coaching and guidance.”

Confirmation of Arthur’s term extension underscores the fact that he will be the longest serving manager in the club’s history, surpassing Brian Smith’s ten years at the Isles.

It also comes after Arthur indicated his desire to activate the extension when asked about it by the media on Tuesday, with Parramatta 0-2 and facing Manly on Thursday night.

“We are heading in the right direction and while we were proud to have qualified for the Grand Final last year, everyone at the club is determined to push this season forward and deliver the results our members and fans deserve,” said Arthur.

“I love being at this club and the relationships I have with our team and our group.

“The best is yet to come from this team, so I am excited to confirm my future at the club.”
