The gallery space at the Acorn Center in Inverurie continues to be popular with local artists and artist groups. The April exhibition will be Laurel Simpson whose work will be on display at the Center from Tuesday, March 28th through Saturday, April 22nd.
Laurel is known for creating unique pieces inspired by the wild places of Scotland
As she explains: “I came to painting late in life and Scotland is my inspiration, my north star!
“My work moves beyond the physicality of place into emotion.
“Wildness is liberating, it allows me to access my baser instincts and respond to the natural forces of our world, from the dark side of storms and snow and ice to flora and shimmering lakes, inspiring mountain heights and warm hugs from valleys mixed with crumbling rubble plots, old whiskey shots and more buried under my feet.”
“All of this has been translated into my paintings.”
She continued: “My palette reflects the richness of the seasons, inviting your senses to feel the chill and hear the water, and immersing you in Scotland.
“The materials I use are based on what I’m trying to convey.
From traditional brushes and techniques to more immersive, experimental techniques using nature to create directly with pine cones, grasses, twigs, feathers and even snow.
“These help me and help creation.
“I pour my energy, passion and passion for Scotland into all of my work and this is what I love most about creativity.”
The center is open from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10 am to 3 pm.
