A patient has been jailed for nine years and 11 months after attacking a care assistant in a secure Cambridgeshire facility so violently that she feared she would die.
Rory Griffin, 39, approached the victim while she was sitting alone on a bench wearing headphones while resting on April 28, 2019.
He suddenly grabbed her, pulled her off the seat, and put his hand over her mouth.
He started punching her on the head while continuing to drag her.
When the victim tried to crawl away, Griffin grabbed her and pushed her down, before grabbing her foot and pulling her back towards some bushes before stopping.
The care assistant again tried to crawl away, but Griffin grabbed her and strangled her to the floor while screaming that he was going to kill her.
A colleague arrived and pushed Griffin away from the victim, pinning him to the ground as she fled.
She was taken to hospital with scratches on her arms and neck.
Griffin, of HMB Wakefield, West Yorkshire, was sentenced on 13 March at Cambridge Crown Court to nine years and 11 months’ imprisonment, after pleading guilty to actual bodily harm, assault with intent to commit a sexual offense and threat to kill.
Diet Con Natalie Marriott said: “Griffin is a real danger to society, so I’m glad he’s now behind bars.
“This was an incredibly frightening and horrific ordeal for a victim who was just minding her own business on respite at the time and later said she thought he was trying to kill her.”
