A lambo driver hits a cyclist on Chapel Street in Melbourne

A cyclist has been seriously injured after being hit by a Lamborghini at a popular entertainment district in Melbourne.

The 46-year-old was crossing the road when he was shot at around 10:30pm on Saturday on Chapel Street in Brahan, just a few hundred yards from the upstairs Revolver nightclub.

On Sunday, police said he was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

A 14-year-old passenger in the car was treated for minor injuries.

The 24-year-old Lamborghini driver, a Sunshine West man, was charged with dangerous driving causing serious injury and reckless, life-threatening behaviour.

He was released on bail to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court on 16 October.

Chapel Street is one of Melbourne’s most popular nightclub areas, with more than a dozen bars drawing thousands of revelers every Friday and Saturday night.

The street also has a bad reputation among cyclists, as it was voted the scariest place in Melbourne for cyclists in a 2020 PeakSpot poll.

The local council is considering separate cycle lanes and other cycling safety measures on the main road.
