A horse has been killed after suffering serious injuries in a freak accident at Mooney Valley Racetrack.
Fluorescent Star went down after clipping the front runner’s heels at Melbourne’s Mooney Valley’s All Star Mile meeting on Saturday afternoon.
Shocking footage showed the disturbing moment the five-year-old mare fell headfirst into the grass.
Jockey Teo Nugent was attended by paramedics on the course before being taken to the hospital.
Nugent was thrown to the ground against a wall of horses in the meeting’s sixth running, the Listed Abell Stakes over 1200 metres.
The 24-year-old was taken by ambulance to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, but is conscious and able to move all his limbs.
Jockey Teo Nugent was seriously injured and had to be euthanized to his mount after a fall of terror at Mooney Valley Racetrack on Saturday afternoon.
Trained sprinters Amy and Ash Yargy are seen slamming across the inside rail and then lying down on the inside track before a green screen is set up to mask the horrific scene.
After the death of their beloved five-year-old mare, Argi Racing took to Twitter to write, ‘We are devastated. We love you, Flo.
Florescent Star was traveling hard until the last corner when I ran up the backside of the tired leaders turning home straight, cutting my heel into In The Boat.
In-the-Boat aboard Harry Coffey said the crash ‘looked a little sloppy’ and he felt lucky it wasn’t him and his mount that fell.
“Thoughts go to Teo and obviously the horse connections he was working with,” Coffey said.
It seemed a little off, and I’ve been following Teo, and it’s amazing how the races are going; If my foal had jumped cleaner, which we would have liked to have done, we would have been in his place instead of a pair in the back.
“That’s the way the race goes, it’s all about luck.”

The fall comes as jockey Jamie Kah suffered a serious concussion last week and Craig Williams broke several bones when they both suffered falls at the same race in Flemington.
The week before, Ethan Brown had also been hospitalized after falling from his horse during the Australian Guinness.
Former Jockey Jamie Mott said while you never think about it during a race, it makes you think about the dangers post-race.
‘It could happen to anyone.’ No, it doesn’t scare you, but it does make you realize what can really happen [on the track]The Age’s death said.
Obviously, we’re all really worried. Once the fall happens, whatever it is, Mott said, and it’s comforting to know they’ll be fine.
“[You] Give your support as much as you can… We are all a good bunch of knights, rally behind each other, and sure enough, we are there if anyone needs us. “
